\n\t3.5 The `s' Command
\n\t===================\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe syntax of the `s' (as in substitute) command is
\n\t`s\/REGEXP\/REPLACEMENT\/FLAGS'.  The `\/' characters may be uniformly
\n\treplaced by any other single character within any given `s' command.
\n\tThe `\/' character (or whatever other character is used in its stead)
\n\tcan appear in the REGEXP or REPLACEMENT only if it is preceded by a `\\'
\n\tcharacter.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t   The `s' command is probably the most important in `sed' and has a
\n\tlot of different options.  Its basic concept is simple: the `s' command
\n\tattempts to match the pattern space against the supplied REGEXP; if the
\n\tmatch is successful, then that portion of the pattern space which was
\n\tmatched is replaced with REPLACEMENT.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t   The REPLACEMENT can contain `\\N' (N being a number from 1 to 9,
\n\tinclusive) references, which refer to the portion of the match which is
\n\tcontained between the Nth `\\(' and its matching `\\)'.  Also, the
\n\tREPLACEMENT can contain unescaped `&' characters which reference the
\n\twhole matched portion of the pattern space.  Finally, as a GNU `sed'
\n\textension, you can include a special sequence made of a backslash and
\n\tone of the letters `L', `l', `U', `u', or `E'.  The meaning is as
\n\tfollows:\n<\/p>\n

\n\t`\\L'
\n\t     Turn the replacement to lowercase until a `\\U' or `\\E' is found,\n<\/p>\n

\n\t`\\l'
\n\t     Turn the next character to lowercase,\n<\/p>\n

\n\t`\\U'
\n\t     Turn the replacement to uppercase until a `\\L' or `\\E' is found,\n<\/p>\n

\n\t`\\u'
\n\t     Turn the next character to uppercase,\n<\/p>\n

\n\t`\\E'
\n\t     Stop case conversion started by `\\L' or `\\U'.\n<\/p>\n

\n\t   To include a literal `\\', `&', or newline in the final replacement,
\n\tbe sure to precede the desired `\\', `&', or newline in the REPLACEMENT
\n\twith a `\\'.\n<\/p>\n
